Computer and Technology Questions

What is the PC UserID?

The PC UserID is the ID you will use to log into your email, log onto the wireless networks on campus, and log onto the computers in the labs. As we move towards a single sign-on, you will soon use it to log onto ANGEL and other campus resources, such as the PC Self Help wiki.

I locked myself out of CyberFriar. What do I do?

You will need to call Enrollment Services at 865-1033.

I locked myself out of CyberFriar. How do I find when and where my class will be held?

You can use Angel to get this information. First, log into Angel and click on one of your courses. Click under Resources, in the left-hand navigation panel. Finally click the link for Course Syllabus. The building and time should be listed to the right of the left-hand navigation panel.

I don't know my alternate PIN to register. How do I get it?

You should speak with your advisor or the department chair. If you can't reach them, call Enrollment Services at 865-1033.

The internet in my room isn't working. How do I fix it?

  • Make sure you are plugged into the right jack with an ethernet cable (it looks like a phone cable, but fatter).
    • The working network jacks have little blue icons next to them with a picture of a computer on them. If you try using a different jack, it won't work.
  • If it still doesn't work, you should try your computer in your roommate's jack (assuming it works) with your cable.
    • If it still doesn't work, try it with your roommate's cable.
      • If that works, the problem is likely with your cable and you will need to buy a new ethernet cable. You can get them at the PC Bookstore.
      • If it doesn't work, there is likely something wrong with your computer. You can call the Helpdesk at 865-HELP (865-4357) or bring your computer to the Helpdesk between 6:00 pm and 10:00 pm Sunday through Thursday nights.
  • If you have your roommate try his/her computer in your jack with his/her cable and that doesn't work, the problem is with your jack.
    • You will need to call the Helpdesk at 865-HELP to have it checked out and fixed.
      • Make sure you have the jack number when you call. It should start with your room number (example: Aquinas 302 would have a jack 302-1 and 302-2).

My computer is running really slow and I have a lot of pop-up windows. Make it stop!

You likely have a spyware infection. You can try cleaning it yourself using anti-spyware tools, such as AdAware, SpyBot Search & Destroy, and Windows Defender, or you can bring your computer to the Helpdesk between 6:00 pm and 10:00 pm Sunday through Thursday nights to have a ResNet tech clean it up for you. If you can't stay online long enough to download the software, the Helpdesk Resource CD has the installers for the tools we use.

We also have instructions on how to clean a spyware infection.

My email password stopped working. Did I do something bad?

Probably not. PC UserID passwords expire every 90 days. You should have received a warning notifying you that it was about to expire. When you see those warnings, you need to make sure you change your password. Once it expires, you get locked out of your email and cannot change your password yourself. If this happens, you will need to come to the Helpdesk in Accinno 102 to have your password reset. Make sure you bring your PC ID card.
