Frequently Asked Questions

I can't open an Office 2007 file! What do I do?

Beginning this fall, all labs will be equipped with Microsoft Office 2007. Files created using this version of Office will not automatically open in Office 2003 because of a different file extension.

In order to open these files using Office 2003, please download the compatibility pack (here) from Microsoft.

Computer labs also have Frontpage 2003 which is not part of the standard Office 2007 package.

How do I upgrade to Office 2007 for Windows or Office 2008 for Macs?

If you are a member of the Faculty or Staff, you have 2 options.

You can sign out an Office 2007 or 2008 CD from Raeann Straube in Accinno 115.

Alternatively, if you wish to upgrade Office 2003 for Windows to Office 2007, you can follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Start Menu and choose Run.
  2. Type \\swlicense\Office in the box and click OK.
  3. In the new window that opens, double-click install.bat or install, depending on what you see.

If you are a Student, unfortunately, the college does not have a license of Microsoft Office for student use.  However, Microsoft has a Home and Student version of the Office suite that costs about $150.

If you purchased a computer from Computopia in either 2007 or 2008, your computer is already equipped with the latest version of Microsoft Office.
