  1. 1. More Information

No, phishing scams are not related to that popular jamband from Vermont. A phishing scam is when someone tries to get some information from you that you would not normally share with them. The information can range from various passwords to credit card and bank account numbers to Social Security numbers.

These scams are used for a variety of reasons, such as:

  • Sending out spam messages through your email account.
  • Identity theft.
  • Stealing money from your account.
  • Using your credit card.

As a policy, Providence College IT will never ask you for a password. If you ever receive an email that asks for your password, you should simply delete it.

If you are ever unsure if an email is a phishing scam, you can send it to helpdesk@providence.edu and someone will let you know.
