Angel for Advising

In addition to Courses and Community Groups, ANGEL also supports academic advising in ANGEL's PC Connects.

What is PC Connects?

PC Connects effectively integrates the Providence College institutional information system, Banner, with ANGEL Learning’s course management software, ANGEL, to enhance communication among and improve access to academic advising resources for students, faculty and administrators. On a nightly basis, the system automatically transports associated members of the academic community into

  • PC Connects: Advising – Individual faculty advising groups
  • PC Connects: Departmental – Department or Program groups, and
  • PC Connects: ProvidenceCollege – The college wide group.

Each group is managed by a group leader, contains group specific resources, calendars, and email lists, facilitating communication and information sharing. The adaptability and flexibility of the software allow each group to support the specific advising needs of diverse academic populations in our faculty-based advising system.

How do I find PC Connects?

PC Connects is a part of the ANGEL system. When you log onto ANGEL at http://angel.providence.edu, your home page will display Courses, Community Groups and PC Connects. You belong to at least three PC Connects groups.

Why am I a member of three different PC Connects groups? How are they different?

How does PC Connects benefit its members, students, faculty advisors, department chairs, academic administrators?

PC Connects has three different sub-groups.Each is automatically populated to reflect changes in students’ academic status (e.g. major, minor) so that students are properly assigned to their departmental and individual advising groups. This organization facilitates communication among advisors and students, individually, as a departmental or program whole, or by subgroup, “team” (e.g. class year, advising group)

Who manages PC Connects as a whole?

The Banner/ANGEL Integration is coordinated by members of the Academic Administration and Information Technology to automatically integrate advising information available in the institutional administrative system (Banner) with the group and communication features of our course management software (ANGEL). This project was initiated in the fall of 2005 following the successful integration of course- specific information between the two systems (in 2004). Presently, PC Connects is automatically updated nightly based on official Banner data. Not only are data transported, but advising associations are maintained: between advisor/advisee, faculty/student/department, and all members of the undergraduate academic community.
