Deki Wiki makes editing a wiki very simple using the WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor. If you are familiar with HTML, you can use the HTML view to edit. However, please be aware that for most editing, the WYSIWYG editor will do everything you want.
Unfortunately, the wiki does not have a spell-checker and does not work with Firefox's built-in spell-checker. It might be tempting to write something up in Microsoft Word and copy and paste it into the wiki. However, that can lead to lots of extra code and a formatting nightmare. It is strongly recommended you write directly in the wiki and leave it up to the spelling geniuses to edit the page and fix any typos.
The toolbar has options for formatting text as bold, italic, underline, or strikeout, as well as changing the color or background highlighting of the text.
The Table of Contents is great for pages that have several different sections. If you wish to fill the Table of Contents for a page, you should highlight the headings of each topic and choose a heading style. As you using sequential headings for each sub-section (H1, H2, H3, etc), it will add those as sub-topics in the Table of Contents (such as with this page).
You should be aware, however, that the various heading styles also change the size of the text with H1 as the largest and H5 the smallest.
As an example on this page, the words "General HOWTO's" is using H2, and the subsequent headings use H3 and H4.
At the bottom of each page is a button that will allow you to upload an image or a file. These images and files will display in their respective sections.
To insert an image in the middle of a page of text, you first need to upload the image using the above instructions. You can then simply click where you want the image in the page and click on the image button. It will then give you the list of attached images and you can select the proper image. Once it is inserted, you can then resize it as necessary.
If a page is a work in progress or you are looking for more information, you should add a comment to the page. There is a box at the bottom of each page where you can add comments.
Tags help users find all the pages related to a specific subject. Some pages will have more than one tag. If a page you are viewing or creating is related to a specific topic or even multiple topics, you should add a tag. You can add tags by choosing the More menu from the orange bar at the top of each page. You do not need to edit a page to add a tag. Pages can have more than one tag, so feel free to add tags for each topic to which the page is related.
